This is a comprehensive strategy for SSC CGL Tier1 as well as Tier2. Cut offs are going sky high these days, because of decreasing vacancies and increasing competition. One must prepare as hard as he can with the right strategy.
Maths:
  • Rakesh Yadav’s hand written class notes (available in market) are very useful for those who have basic knowledge of school level mathematics and do not want to attend any coaching classes. Solve questions given in this book, learn short tricks. Note down important formulas and methods for later revision in a separate note book.
  • After completing a chapter from class notes. Practice the same from “7300 questions book by Rakesh Yadav”.
  • Try to Solve as many questions as possible.
English Grammar :
  • Study Plinth to Paramount Vol. 1 and finish grammar portion.
  • Solve the questions given at the end of each chapter.
  • After finishing grammar portion from Vol. 1, start solving previous year questions of Error Spotting and Sentence Improvement from Kiran’s book.
Vocabulary :
  • It’s upto you how you can memorize important words.
  • I used Word Power Made Easy, Plinth to Paramount Vol. 1 to cover Synonyms, Antonyms and one word substitutions.
  • For Idioms and Phrases, Plinth to Paramount Vol. 2 is a great book.
  • Practice them from Kiran's book.
Note: Cloze tests, Jumbled Sentences, Reading Comprehension and Fill in Blanks do not require any additional knowledge. They should also be practised from Kiran’s Book of Previous Year Questions after completing Vocabulary and Grammar.
General Awareness :
As SSC has not defined a proper syllabus for GA, you need to find important topics yourself.
Kiran’s book of previous year questions has questions subject-wise and it is really helpful to identify important topics.
After determining relevant topics one can study them from following books.
  1. Polity - Lucent
  2. Microeconomics - 12th NCERT
  3. Macroeconomics - Mrunal Sir’s Lectures
  4. History - Lucent
  5. Geography - Lucent
  6. Science - Lucent
  7. Memorize list of Inventors and their Inventions, Mensuring Instruments etc. given at the end of Lucent
  8. Biology and Ecology : NCERT/LUCENT
  9. Current Affairs : Follow any famous current affairs magzine. Don't take it seriously as it doesn't have good time to benefit ratio.
Note : GA covers only 50 marks out of 700 in SSC CGL. Hence, one should not waste much time on it and should focus on English and Maths instead which covers 600 marks out of the total 700.
Mock Tests:
  • Take atleast two tests every week.
  • Paramount, KD campus, Test Book, Qmaths and SSC Tube test series are available.
  • You will also get to know your weak and strong areas and can plan your studies accordingly.
Reasoning :
  • SSC CGL’s reasoning portion is not as difficult as IBPS exams.
  • Above mentioned test series should be enough to cover your Reasoning portion.
  • In case you find any topic difficult. You can always refer R. S. Agarwal book. It is a very large book, so it not recommended to solve it entirely. Time to benefit ratio is very less.
Good Luck for the Exam.
