What are the best books for SSC CGL preparation?

    Notes include: 2000+ pages.

BUY NOW SSC CGL HANDWRITTEN NOTES

This is a comprehensive strategy for SSC CGL Tier1 as well as Tier2. Cut offs are going sky high these days, because of decreasing vacancies and increasing competition. One must prepare as hard as he can with the right strategy.
    Maths:
    • Rakesh Yadav’s hand written class notes (available in market) are very useful for those who have basic knowledge of school level mathematics and do not want to attend any coaching classes. Solve questions given in this book, learn short tricks. Note down important formulas and methods for later revision in a separate note book.
    • After completing a chapter from class notes. Practice the same from “7300 questions book by Rakesh Yadav”.
    • Try to Solve as many questions as possible.
    English Grammar :
    • Study Plinth to Paramount Vol. 1 and finish grammar portion.
    • Solve the questions given at the end of each chapter.
    • After finishing grammar portion from Vol. 1, start solving previous year questions of Error Spotting and Sentence Improvement from Kiran’s book.
    Vocabulary :
    • It’s upto you how you can memorize important words.
    • I used Word Power Made Easy, Plinth to Paramount Vol. 1 to cover Synonyms, Antonyms and one word substitutions.
    • For Idioms and Phrases, Plinth to Paramount Vol. 2 is a great book.
    • Practice them from Kiran's book.
Note: Cloze tests, Jumbled Sentences, Reading Comprehension and Fill in Blanks do not require any additional knowledge. They should also be practised from Kiran’s Book of Previous Year Questions after completing Vocabulary and Grammar.
    General Awareness :
As SSC has not defined a proper syllabus for GA, you need to find important topics yourself.
Kiran’s book of previous year questions has questions subject-wise and it is really helpful to identify important topics.
After determining relevant topics one can study them from following books.
    1. Polity - Lucent
    2. Microeconomics - 12th NCERT
    3. Macroeconomics - Mrunal Sir’s Lectures
    4. History - Lucent
    5. Geography - Lucent
    6. Science - Lucent
    7. Memorize list of Inventors and their Inventions, Mensuring Instruments etc. given at the end of Lucent
    8. Biology and Ecology : NCERT/LUCENT
    9. Current Affairs : Follow any famous current affairs magzine. Don't take it seriously as it doesn't have good time to benefit ratio.
Note : GA covers only 50 marks out of 700 in SSC CGL. Hence, one should not waste much time on it and should focus on English and Maths instead which covers 600 marks out of the total 700.
    Mock Tests:
    • Take atleast two tests every week.
    • Paramount, KD campus, Test Book, Qmaths and SSC Tube test series are available.
    • You will also get to know your weak and strong areas and can plan your studies accordingly.
    Reasoning :
    • SSC CGL’s reasoning portion is not as difficult as IBPS exams.
    • Above mentioned test series should be enough to cover your Reasoning portion.
    • In case you find any topic difficult. You can always refer R. S. Agarwal book. It is a very large book, so it not recommended to solve it entirely. Time to benefit ratio is very less.
    Good Luck for the Exam.

Are ESE prelims tougher than ESE Mains

Are ESE prelims tougher than ESE Mains

Prelims and Mains of ESE test a different set of skills of aspirants and it all depends from person to person. Below is a brief comparison of both the stages of ESE

    Prelims:

The number of aspirants is huge – around 2 lakh, thus the chance of selection is very low. The questions are MCQs with 4 options for each, which helps the student to recollect and recall what had been studied earlier Even if the student does not have complete knowledge of the concept being tested in questions, few questions can be solved using elimination technique or educated guesswork. This stage requires complete coverage of syllabus and tests time management skill as well. Here the syllabus is more because both General Studies and Technical have to be prepared no calculator is the available. No choice in question selection as compared to MainsFormulae, definitions, and concepts have to be focused on. Shortcuts and tricks are applicable in solving a few questions. Accuracy matters a lot.

    Mains:

Even though the number of aspirants is very less, but yet the competition is high because at this stage all the aspirants are dedicated and serious students. In-depth knowledge is required to answer writing skills and presentation skills matter a lot at this stage.QCAB format gives limited space but at the same time is easier to use.4 months’ time is available exclusively for this stage. Choice in question selection. So one has to judiciously pick what all to attempt to score maximum marks. Step marking is there so u have to write all the steps. Derivations and long numerical also have to be prepared

You have to plan your preparation according to the pattern of Prelims and Mains both so as to score maximum marks in the written stage. If you think that you can prepare on your own and the competitive environment of the class is too much for you, self-study can be the right path. If you think you need extra assistance and want a supervised study plan, joining coaching classes can help you a lot. In case you decide to enroll in a coaching institute make sure you research a bit before joining the right institute. Look at factors like past achievements, batch timings, course duration, is assistance available for gd/pi, faculty members, infrastructure and learning environment, general feedback and the fee structure. I spoke to a few alumni of my college who had earlier topped GATE and zeroed into Made Easy Institute after careful consideration of all the above-mentioned factors.

    2. Circuit theory and Networks

    3. Control systems

    4. Analog Electronics

    5. Power electronics

    6. Digital Electronics

    7. Field Theory

    Hope this helps

    PREPARATION STRATEGY

    Written Examination -

A written examination is a 2hr Examination with 100 questions, questions are of GATE level but since in less time you have to attempt more no. of questions speed is going to be an important factor.

Attempting the examination of BARC is very important when I attempted my written Examination I started from the first question and started solving easy Questions and Questions which are bit lengthy and require more time I marked them for review and completely skipped the Tough Questions. There are ample no. of questions and you can skip too many questions so it is better to attempt easy Questions first and don’t stuck and waste time in any particular question.

A virtual calculator will be provided in the Written examination same as GATE.

Solve GATE, ESE, ISRO previous years for the written Examination.
